BBLA General Meeting
BBLA will hold a general meeting on Thursday, March 26 at noon in room 203 (TTU Law School). The main purpose of this meeting will be to officially introduce BBLA's 2009-2010 Executive Board (there will also be an opportunity to join the board) and discuss plans for the rest of this semester and the coming year. Lunch will be provided.
K. Helen Yu, American Airlines Senior Litigation Counsel
On March 5 at noon in the Don Hunt Courtroom, Ms. Yu will speak about her background, her path in becoming the senior litigation counsel for American Airlines, and her work managing litigation and bankruptcy matters and serving as Chair of the Legal Department’s Diversity Committee.
The Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy
Thomas Roberts, Corporate partner and department co-chairman, Executive Committee member at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, will discuss the Lehman Brothers collapse (the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history) and the role of Weil, Gotshal & Manges as bankruptcy counsel. Friday, Feb. 20, at 2pm in the Henry Jury Room (Lanier Center).
Reflections on A Career in Corporate Law
Mr. Richard Ginsburg ('94), a corporate partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, will reflect on his experiences practicing in Dallas, London, and New York and discuss the "new corporate frontier" as a result of recent changes in finance, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity markets. Thursday, Feb. 19, at noon in the law school forum (lunch will be provided).

BBLA's next general meeting will take place on Monday, February 9th @ noon in Room 102 (old courtroom, TTU Law School). At the meeting, Angela Offerman from the Houston law firm of Stumpf Farrimond P.C. will also be sharing her experiences as a commercial litigation and bankruptcy lawyer. New members welcome. Lunch will be served!
Bankruptcy Panel Discussion
BBLA will host a Bankruptcy Panel Discussion Tuesday, October 28th @ noon in the Allison Courtroom (old courtroom) with Judge Robert L. Jones, Sam Gregory, a consumer Bankruptcy Lawyer, and Robert Wilson, a Chapter 13 Trustee. With the current state of the economy, it's a great time to be bankruptcy lawyer and these speakers will provide a comprehensive insight into this practice.
Farm, Ranch, & Agri-Business bankruptcy institute
On Oct. 23-24, the Farm, Ranch, & Agri-Business Bankruptcy Institute will be back at the law school and the Merket Center. The Institute is sponsored by the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association, the Law School, the Association of Chapter 12 Trustees, and the Bankruptcy Section of the State Bar of Texas. In addition to farm and ranch bankruptcy issues, there will be a lot of coverage of general business and consumer bankruptcy topics. This is also a great opportunity to meet bankruptcy judges and professionals from around the state and nation. All members are invited to attend the Institute sessions (although materials will be available for paid attendees only).
