She began her work experience in the retail sales industry, soon went on to become a licensed cosmetologist, and later obtained associates degrees in both Arts and Office Administration.

Her versatile experience includes teaching GED courses on all subjects, teaching college level Biology and Algebra, and spending years volunteering at a women’s Crisis Intervention Center in Houston, Texas. Ms. Bates has been repeatedly acknowledged for her outreach in the community and her service as a leader in multiple organizations.

In 2003, she had the tremendous opportunity to gain insight on international business practices when she visited abroad, attended business meetings, and toured the premises of five different large and small product manufacturers in the European countries of the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Poland, and Germany.

Prior to giving up her ownership interest in her business and attending law school, Ms. Bates engaged in extensive research of prospective careers. She has gained practical legal experience from working for two attorneys who own private firms, one specializing in family law and one in entertainment law. She gained additional experience working for a District Court Judge, in the District Attorney’s office, in Juvenile Court, and in Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia. Ms. Bates’ exposure to transactional practice, litigation, private practice, and public service has made her realize that her passion and excitement for practicing law will undoubtedly be rewarding irrespective of choosing any one specialized legal field. While in law school, she has been active in several law student organizations in addition to state and national legal organizations. In Fall 2007, she and her two teammates won "Best Brief" among 16 statewide teams who competed in a State Bar Administrative Law competition.
